On 18 November 2025, at Jack Taylor Airfield in Krugersdorp, the skies carried more than the hum of aircraft engines. They carried gratitude, courage and the unmistakable joy of South Africans who, for the first time in their lives, felt the thrill of flight.

The Elders Flight 2025 brought together more than 500 senior citizens and 20 military veterans for a day they will never forget. Many of these honoured guests had never flown before, simply because life’s circumstances placed such experiences out of reach. On this special day, that changed. For a moment, the weight of years fell away, and the wonder of possibility returned.

This annual event follows the success of the Children’s Flight held earlier in the year. Together, these initiatives form two sides of the same vision: uplifting both the youngest and the oldest among us. Founded by Felix Gosher, the mission behind these flights is simple but profound – to use aviation to inspire, uplift and remind people of their value, no matter their age. Under the motto Fly Feed Love Inspire, pilots, sponsors, volunteers and community partners work together to create moments of significance that linger far beyond the runway.

Senior citizens hold an irreplaceable place in any society. They carry our stories, our history and our hard-earned lessons. Their wisdom, resilience and lived experience are gifts that younger generations can learn from and build on. Days like the Elders Flight reaffirm this truth. They remind us that honouring elders is not an act of charity, but an act of respect. When we celebrate their lives, we strengthen the bonds that tie communities together across generations.

For Connect-it, contributing to this event was a privilege. As a proud sponsor, our team had the honour of handing each participant their symbolic pilot wings as they returned from their flight. These wings were more than a keepsake. They represented courage, dignity and the recognition every elder deserves. The conversations, smiles and emotional moments shared at the handover point reinforced how powerful it is when society pauses to acknowledge the people who paved the way for all of us.

Throughout the event, aircraft rose and descended in a steady rhythm, each flight carrying new memories into the hearts of the elders who stepped on board. Volunteers ensured everyone felt welcomed. Pilots opened their cockpits with pride. Aviation partners, including the South African Air Force Museum and many dedicated friends of the initiative, worked together to make the day seamless and uplifting.

Events like the Elders Flight remind us of what happens when a community chooses generosity. They show how shared effort can restore dignity, honour sacrifice and inspire new dreams at any age. They also encourage us to create more spaces where the experiences of older generations are heard, respected and passed on.

To every elder and veteran who flew: thank you for sharing your stories, your courage and your joy. A society that listens to its elders builds a stronger future.

To the organisers, pilots, volunteers and partner organisations: your commitment is changing lives, one flight at a time.

Participating in the Elders Flight 2025 was a gift. And uplifting our elders – even in a small way – will always be one of the greatest privileges we can share.
